MultiKarta’s card processing center gets a new computer facility
Moscow – MultiKarta, a leading Russian card processor, and Jet Infosystems have completed a new data center for the company’s consolidated card processing facility. The project was aimed at upgrading Multikarta’s IT infrastructure and improving the quality of services.
A fault-tolerant solution deployed on two mirror server sites in Moscow and St.Petersburg features robust performance and high reliability both in terms of individual sites and as an integrated platform.
The upgraded card processing center fully supports MultiKarta’s growing business with the VTB group and other clients, can easily accommodate innovations and provides convenient high-quality services to customers.
“Our card processing resources needed a major upgrade to deal with the steady growth in the client base. In other words, a new fault-tolerant data center was needed,” says Mikhail Raynov, chief IT and telecommunications officer, MultiKarta. “Jet Infosystems’ solution, which involves the most advanced consolidation and virtualization technologies, was an optimum response to our needs. It was also deployed without any interruption in services.”

As a result, the system was delivered on schedule and met all the criteria of reliability, performance and scaleability.”
A fault-tolerant solution was developed and deployed on two mirror server sites in Moscow and St.Petersburg. Special application software synchronizes all the data received from VTB group services and other clients.
The data center is based on an IBM platform and Hitachi data storage systems. Databases for the consolidated card processing facility are hosted on four IBM Power 570 servers. Each server is divided into virtual partitions by the IBM PowerVM virtualization subsystem to allocate and manage physical resources among virtual servers that operate individual (pilot or actual) databases. The facility has a total of over 90 such databases.
In order to completely avoid downtime during scheduled maintenance and to control server loads online, the solution takes advantage of Live Partition Mobility (part of the IBM PowerVM Enterprise), which is capable of moving a virtual partition between physical servers as a whole autonomous segment without the need to shut down business applications.
The sites in Moscow and St. Petersburg are connected with a fault-tolerant network communication channel. Both sites feature identical hardware; should either site fail, the other one can operate continuously for an extended time without any loss in functionality or performance.
The flexible system of resource management is capable of increasing computing capacity in one-processor increments. Therefore the system can be upgraded with minimal IT configuration changes to save on capital outlays. Due to the integration of all the above-mentioned technologies each site and the distributed facility as a whole are highly dependable.
